How the Care Smart is useful when hospitalized

Many of us, as we get older, end up in the hospital, ER, or urgent care on a regular basis. Right now with the pandemic these places really limit the number of people that can be with you or visit you. The Care Smart wearable device is perfect to have with you or a loved one at a time like this.

Disclosure: I received a free Care Smart device to test out over the next few months from Verizon and OM Media and share my experiences with you. I am, however, a Verizon customer and have been for years. My thoughts on the device and service are my own. #caresmart #verizon #sponsored

The Verizon Care Smart is a wearable device that keeps older family and friends connected in a simpler way. Not everyone wants a full phone for a variety of reasons. The Care Smart lets them stay connected easily. It’s available from Verizon for $149.99 and then it is just $10/month when added to a Verizon account or $15/month on other carriers. Special promo now thru 12/31 – get $50 off Care Smart watch with any smartphone purchase. The device has it’s own dedicated phone number included.

In case you missed it, check out my original post about the Care Smart from last month.

Top Reasons Care Smart is Great During Medical Care

As you can see there are a ton of great reasons why the Care Smart watch is great for a loved one to have while receiving medical care. While we all hope that we don’t need that kind of medical care, it is just a fact of life for many of us and our loved ones as we get older. It is comforting to know we can still easily keep in touch when it happens.

  • No Holding Phone
There are many times that you really cannot hold onto a phone and use it properly when you are getting medical care. With the Care Smart it’s all right on the wrist for you. You just need one finger to tap!
  • No Cords and Long Battery Life
One thing about rooms in the ER or hospital these days is that the beds are far away from the outlet on the wall. The Care Smart has a super long battery life so you don’t need to have it plugged in all the time away from the patient. If you are under care for several days you can still charge up the Care Smart via USB or a traditional wall plug.
  • Send Location to Loved Ones
The wearer can easily tap the screen to send their current location to trusted loved ones using the free companion app if real-time tracking is not already turned on.

  • Keep Loved Ones Up to Date
Care Smart users can easily send updates via phone or message to family and friends listed in their contacts to let them know what is happening.
  • Less Distracting than Full Phone
After all, the patient is there to get better. Sometimes the less distraction the better! Only the 10 contacts you add can call or text the Care Smart device.
  • Text to Speech
There are certain times you may want the Care Smart user to be able to hear anything on the screen being read aloud to them. You can easily turn this feature on and off via the Care Smart companion app on a loved ones phone. It will read the day, date and time, contact names, even the text messages they receive.

  • Quiet Time
This is another feature you can turn on and off via the companion app. There is a lot of sleeping and napping at the hospital and there are already enough interruptions with staff usually. When you know your loved one is sleeping turn on Quiet Time for Care Smart. The notifications will still show on the phone but there will be no audible notifications.

  • Timer
One of the things that many people need in the hospital is pain meds which made me think of the Care Smart timer. We forget when it is going to be 4 hours later, etc. but with the timer you can set it when you are given a dose of meds and then know when it is time again easily.
  • Step Count
If you have had surgery, many times the doctors and nurses are after you to get up and walk to help with healing afterwards. The step counter and ability to set step goals is built into the Care Smart so you can keep track of how much you are doing and show the care team when they ask.
  • Easy to Send Voice Messages and Emoticons
The Care Smart wearer can send a text as a voice message so no typing involved. Just tap the screen and start talking to record a message to send to the contacts. If you don’t feel like talking there are also some standard emoticon faces you can send as a message to loved ones at home as well.

  • Send Encouraging Texts to Wearer
If it is not you, but your loved one, in the hospital you can easily send text messages to their Care Smart wearable. Sometimes just a “hang in there” or a “we love you” messages is better than any medicine to make someone feel better.
  • Waterproof
The Care Smart device is waterproof so there is no need to take off while showering or getting sponge bath or the like while in the hospital.
  • Set Geofencing for Facilities
If there are a few medical facilities your loved one generally goes to (certain hospital/er/urgent care) put those in via the companion app for the Care Smart device for saved locations.

As you can see, the Care Smart watch really can be so useful and comforting during medical care and emergencies. None of us like to think about these things but it is a fact of life for many of us or our older family and friends. It’s nice to know you can still stay in touch so easily when need be.
